Target Plus onboarding checklist for new vendors

See what Target Plus asks new vendors to provide, from an EIN and business address to customs, compliance and 3PL details.

Acenda's Target Plus onboarding checklist covers what Target now asks new vendors applying to Target Plus to provide: an EIN, a Social Security number (SSN), a physical business address, and information on Importer of Record, trademark and compliance, customs and documentation, and 3PL and warehouse coordination. Each section below explains what the item means and what to have ready before you apply. Target reviews every application and makes the final decision.

Business identification

Business identification details tell Target who you are and where your business operates. Have these three items ready:

Item

What it means

What to have ready

EIN

Your Employer Identification Number, the 9-digit federal tax ID the IRS assigns to a business.

Your EIN and your legal business name exactly as they appear on your IRS records.

Social Security number (SSN)

Target Plus payouts go through Stripe, and Stripe requires an SSN for identity verification.

Your SSN, ready to enter when you set up payouts.

Physical business address

A street address where your business is located, not only a mailing address.

Your business street address, matching your other business records.

Note: Never send your SSN to Acenda or include it in a support case.

Importer of Record

The Importer of Record is the party legally responsible for imported goods clearing customs, including making sure the goods meet import rules and that duties and fees are paid. Depending on how you source products, the Importer of Record can be your business, your manufacturer, or a customs broker acting for you.

Have ready:

  • The name of the party that acts as Importer of Record for your products.

  • Which of your products are imported and which are made in the US, if you sell both.

Trademark and compliance

Trademark and compliance information shows that you own or are authorized to sell the brands you list, and that your products meet the safety and labeling rules for their category.

Have ready:

  • Your trademark registration details, or a letter from the brand owner authorizing you to sell the brand.

  • Compliance documents that apply to your products, such as test reports, certificates and labeling information.

Customs and documentation

Customs and documentation covers the paperwork that moves imported goods across the border and into your inventory.

Have ready:

  • Commercial invoices and packing lists for your imported shipments.

  • The country of origin and tariff classification (HTS code) for your products.

  • The contact details of your customs broker or freight forwarder, if you use one.

3PL and warehouse coordination

3PL and warehouse coordination explains how your Target Plus orders get picked, packed and shipped, and from where.

Have ready:

Acenda can help you coordinate your warehouses and 3PLs, so orders route to the right location and tracking goes back to Target. To set up locations in Acenda, see How to add and manage warehouses. Acenda also integrates with Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF).

Important: Amazon MCF for Target Plus is a closed beta. You need Target's approval before you route any Target Plus orders to MCF, and approved sellers must use the Blank Box (unbranded packaging) option. Walmart's fulfillment services and other competitor fulfillment services aren't allowed for Target Plus orders.

Tip: Once Target approves you, see How to connect Target Plus to Acenda to add the channel and map your warehouses.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

  • Who do I ask about a Target Plus application requirement? Open a case in the Target+ Partner Portal. For questions about Acenda, warehouses or 3PL setup, contact Acenda support.

  • Do I need an Importer of Record if my products are made in the US? The Importer of Record applies to imported goods. If none of your products are imported, say so in your application, and open a case in the Target+ Partner Portal if you're unsure what to enter.

  • Can I use Amazon MCF or Walmart fulfillment for Target Plus orders? Amazon MCF is allowed only if Target approves you for its closed beta, and only with the Blank Box option. Walmart's fulfillment services and other competitor fulfillment services aren't allowed.

  • Does working with Acenda get me approved? No. Acenda assists qualified vendors with introductions and nominations, but Target makes the final decision. See Is Acenda an approved Target Plus partner?
