What is the Target+ product label requirement for CPG items?

Learn how to send Target Plus the required label image for food, supplement and OTC items from Acenda, and what Target accepts.

Target Plus requires CPG items that carry nutrition facts, drug facts, an ingredient list or an allergen statement to show that information on the Product Detail Page (PDP), and you send it from Acenda as an alternate product image of the label. The image must match the label on the packaging sold in the United States today. Target shows it on the PDP as "Label Info" or "Drug Facts."

Who this applies to: Only items that legally require nutrition facts, drug facts, ingredients, or allergen statements — mainly food, beverage, supplement, and over-the-counter health items. Most general merchandise doesn't need this.

What label image does Target+ accept?

The label image is a photo or scan of the label information printed on the product's packaging. It can show the whole side of the package or only the facts panel and ingredient list.

  • Accepted: A clear, current image of the U.S. packaging that shows the same facts panel, ingredients, allergen statement and net quantity the shopper receives.

  • Not accepted: Labels made for another country (a different nutrition format, language, serving size or unit of measure), drafts, older versions of the label, or a label from another size or flavor of the product.

Wellness Badges on Target.com are also read from the label information in your product images. Keep the label image current whenever your packaging changes.

Add a label image to an item

  1. Click CATALOG > Items in the sidebar.

  2. Click the eye icon next to the item to open it. If the item has variants, open each variant you sell on Target+, because each variant has its own packaging.

  3. Scroll to the Media section on the Details tab and click the pencil icon.

  4. Click Upload Image or Add from URL to add the label image. New images are added to the end of the list as alternate images.

  5. Keep the label image after your main image and first alternate image. Target doesn't allow text-heavy images in those two spots.

  6. Click the Save Changes icon. Acenda sends the image to Target+ the next time the item syncs.

Adding label images to many items? Use a spreadsheet import, as described in How to bulk update product images. When you replace a label image, use a new image link rather than overwriting the file at the old link.

Optional: third-party label data providers

Some brands also work with a third-party data provider for label information and Wellness Badge attributes. Target's current guidance asks for the label image described above, so treat a provider as an extra, not a replacement. Check with Target Plus support before relying on a provider alone.

How does the label requirement work with Acenda?

Acenda sends the label image to Target+ with the rest of the item's images. Acenda's Target+ integration doesn't have separate fields for nutrition facts, drug facts, ingredients, or allergen statements.

If your category's posting template does map a specific label-related attribute (for example, a Wellness Badge field), you'd manage that mapping the same way as any other Target field, under CHANNELS > Integrations > Edit > Posting Templates or Commonality. See How to find the allowed values for a marketplace field for how to look up what a field accepts.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

  • Does my item need label information? Only if it's legally required to carry nutrition facts, drug facts, an ingredient list, or an allergen statement — generally food, beverage, supplement, and over-the-counter health items.

  • Can I use the label from our international packaging? No. Target only accepts the label on the current U.S. packaging. Labels for other markets, drafts and outdated versions aren't accepted.

  • Why isn't Label Info showing on Target after I added the image? Check that the image saved on each variant you sell on Target+ and that it isn't the main or first alternate image. Then check CHANNELS > Item Issues for an image error. If the image went out without errors, contact Target Plus support.

  • Do I still need a data provider? Not for the label requirement itself, based on Target's current guidance. A provider may still help with Wellness Badge attributes. Confirm with Target Plus support if you're unsure.

  • What if my item has a different Target error or isn't showing up at all? That's likely unrelated to label information. See How to fix marketplace listing errors.
