Troubleshooting: Target+ "Unlisted Item" error

Get an item back on sale after Target+ unlisted it for no orders in 120 days.

The Target+ "Unlisted Item" error in Acenda means Target+ unlisted your item and released its barcode (UPC/GTIN). Target's error message says this happens when an item has had no orders for 120 days. The item is no longer for sale on Target.com until it's re-listed.

Nothing is wrong with your product data in Acenda. Acenda is showing you a decision Target made.

The error you'll see (Target uses a few versions of the same message):

  • DATA_VALIDATION: 'Unlisted item - systematically releases barcode if no orders in last 120 days.

  • DATA_VALIDATION: Unlisted item - systematically releases barcode if there are no orders in the last 120 days

  • PROCESS_EXCEPTION: Unlisted item - systematically releases barcode if there are no orders in the last 120 days

What does the Unlisted Item error mean?

The error text says Target unlists items, and releases their barcodes, when they have had no orders for 120 days. Target also reviews item productivity periodically and may remove low-performing items. Acenda didn't remove the item.

Two other Target messages mean the same thing, and the steps below apply to them too: "Target has unlisted this item due to a prolonged period of no sales" and "Target has unlisted this item due to prolonged non-competitive price/ No Sales".

How this relates to the barcode-released error: This message tells you why Target unlisted the item. If the item is later sent to Target while its barcode is still locked, Target can reject it with a different message: "This item was unlisted previously; Barcode released after 60 (or 120) days from that previous unlist/last order date." That's the same released barcode. The fixes for it (waiting out the lock, or a new barcode) are in Troubleshooting: Target+ error "This item was unlisted previously; Barcode released after 120 days from that previous unlist/last order date".

Where you'll see it in Acenda

  • Item Issues: In the sidebar, under CHANNELS, click Item Issues. The error shows with the item's SKU, a Source of channel (meaning it came from Target), and an Attribute Path of unknown, because Target doesn't tie it to a single attribute. If you copy the error, you may see ": unknown" at the end. That's the Attribute Path. See How to fix marketplace listing errors.

  • On the item: In the sidebar, under CATALOG, click Items, click the eye icon next to the item, open the Channel Status tab, and click the Target+ tab (or whatever you've named your Target+ channel). The Status shows UNLISTED. See What is Channel Status?.

How to get the item back on Target

Per Target's guidance, you re-list an unlisted item by sending Target an updated version of it. Here's how.

  1. Improve the item's content in Acenda. Make small but real improvements, for example expand the description, refine the title (no keyword stuffing), or add or correct a bullet point or attribute such as material or dimensions. Cosmetic or meaningless edits may be rejected by Target's validation.

  2. Keep the same UPC. Don't change the barcode unless Target tells you to. UPC changes go through Target's own process.

  3. Keep the Listing Action on FULL. Check the Target+ Listing Action on the item's Channel Status tab.

  4. Make sure the item can be sent. It needs stock in a warehouse mapped to your Target+ channel, above any inventory floor you've set. Check Item Issues for other errors on the item and on other items in its variant family. Acenda sends a parent and all its variants together, so an error on any one of them (shown as "Related SKUs have Error") holds back the whole family.

  5. Let Acenda send the update. Acenda sends the updated item to Target with the next scheduled catalog update. You don't need to trigger anything. When Target accepts it, the Status changes back to APPROVED and the error clears from Item Issues automatically.

Still not re-listed? Open a case with Target Plus support in your Target+ Partner Portal. Include the SKU, the barcode and the full error text. Based on what sellers have heard back from Target, Target may ask how the item will sell once it's back, such as seasonality, a price change, a promotion, or stock that's back after a stockout.

If Target rejects it with "Barcode released after 60/120 days": the barcode is still locked. Follow Troubleshooting: Target+ error "This item was unlisted previously; Barcode released after 120 days from that previous unlist/last order date" to wait out the lock or, with Target's approval, list the item under a new barcode.
