Which terms can block your listing on a marketplace?

See which words may cause a marketplace to block or suppress your listing, and how to write content that goes live.

Acenda is providing this information as a courtesy. Vendors should use their best judgment, consult with an attorney, and consult the applicable sales channel for guidance.

Some words and phrases in your Acenda product content can cause a marketplace such as Target Plus, Walmart or Amazon to block or suppress your listing, or keep it from going live. Use this list to review your item titles, descriptions and bullet points before you send items to a marketplace.

Tips for writing product content

  • Avoid promotional or exaggerated claims. Present your product positively, but don't make unrealistic claims or use language that reads as spam.

  • Avoid inappropriate or offensive language. This includes discriminatory, sexist, racist or vulgar language.

  • Don't use brand names, logos or copyrighted material without permission.

  • Don't make false or misleading statements. Be honest about what your product can and can't do.

  • Keep it simple. Avoid overly technical language so the average shopper can understand your description.

  • Don't include external website URLs, such as https://www.mysite.com.

Tip: Write a clear, concise and honest description that accurately reflects your product's features and benefits.

Which terms may block your listing?

Each marketplace sets its own rules, so a term on this list may be accepted by one marketplace and blocked by another. Terms are listed alphabetically.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

  • Why was my listing rejected for a restricted or prohibited term? Open How to fix marketplace listing errors to find the error, then remove or reword the term in the title, description and bullet points. Your update is sent with the next sync, and the marketplace may take time to review it.

  • What if a term on this list is a real part of my product (for example, leather)? You may still be able to use it if it accurately describes the product. Make sure the claim is true and, where needed, supported by the marketplace's required attributes or certifications. If the marketplace still blocks it, try a more specific, factual phrase. Bamboo is a restricted term that may need more detail, for example "viscose from bamboo".

  • Why did my item go live and then get suppressed? Marketplaces may review content after a listing goes live. Check the item for errors and review its content against this list.

  • Why is my listing still blocked after I removed the term? Check every content field, including bullet points and any marketplace-specific title or description fields, since the term may appear in more than one place.

  • Who can help with a specific listing? Contact Acenda support, 9 AM to 5 PM PT on weekdays, with the SKU, the sales channel and the exact error message.
